This was the start of the mediascape project with my year 9 group. I was considering the possibility of building a mediascape along the lines of the 'secrets' website, with students telling stories about themselves. Into my in tray dropped information about a competition for schools with the title 'Express Yourself". This seemed to be fortuitous serendipity, so the first two lessons were aimed at creating work to send off for this. In the first lesson, after an introduction to the idea, students went off around school taking photographs. In the second lesson these photographs were edited in Photoshop. Part of the reason behind doing this short project was simply to get the group working, and collaborating, to get them using the cameras with intent, and for the fun of entering a competition. I always appreciate competitions, as they add a further dimension to projects. at the least we might win some pencils...
