early sketchbook
These are drawings from an early sketchbook, circa
1983/84 just at the time when I started teaching and
decided that I should start to draw from life. Prior to
that I was of the abstrat bent, or photographic, and not
thinking of myself as a 'drawing' sort of artist. It is
rare still that I really manage to lose myself in my
drawing, difficult to find the time to put aside to do
this. The primary reason for putting these drawings up on
this site is to experiment with the gallery software, but
also in thinking back over the course of my own artistic
practice. I wonder what might have been had I kept up
this sort of drawing, especially the landscape and
imaginative. Where was the energy coming from to do this
drawing - youth, family free, seeking a partner, the raw
energy of the groups of people I was with, drawings of
women I was attracted to, drawings for women that I was
attracted to.
