I have been working over the past year to get Sidcot
enrolled as one of Apple's Regional Training Centres. I am
already involved in this scheme as an Apple Distinguished
Educator, but to gain official status for the school would
be good. I have a vision of using the phenomenal resource
of the new creative arts block at Sidcot both to run
workshops, and to use digital technology to blur the
boundaries between Art, Music and Drama. I feel that we can
use digital technology to explore many exciting innovations
in school structure.
The main problem for me in offering Sidcot as an RTC is
that they will ask for a minimum of 9 workshop sessions a
year, with 10 or more teachers at each session. This would
be a huge commitment for us.
My fall-back plan is to become a travelling evangelist,
taking a digital road show out to the seven other Quaker
schools in the UK. If they could organise one day a year
each, my target would nearly be met.
The representative from Apple who is responsible for the
RTC's in the south of England has now visited us twice, and
looked around the impressive construction site. I am
feeling confident that I can fulfil the criteria once the
new build is up and running.
My next step in this project is to submit a proposal to
Apple, that can also be taken to the Quaker Head Teachers
conference in June. I was planning to get this written as a
part of this assignment, but time has defeated me again.
