One of the primary reasons for me deciding to take on an MA
in Interactive Arts was the combination of the wish I have
to explore the potential of web based teaching, galleries,
assessment, portfolio's etc...., with a wish to improve my
somewhat meagre web site design skills. The departmental
site that I currently have up and running was designed
nearly 8 years ago by an ex student, and it is showing
signs of age. I managed to acquire money from our school
parent teacher association for an update to the site, and
commissioned the same student to do this for me. But I have
lost contact with him, I know not why. The site is
currently in the hands of the parents of another student,
who specialise in web design and Flash. It has been quite a
process making artistic and creative decisions by proxy,
and as my web creation skills have developed it might have
been easier for me to create the site from scratch, But I
am feeling quite pleased with the front end of the site as
it is now (given that much of the imagery is temporary),
and plan the development of this site as a major project
over the summer holiday. Using external expertise rather
than trying to learn to do everything myself, probably
badly, is very much a part of the process.
