This is a very quick trial using the new photomerge tools
in Adobe Photoshop CS4 and the latest version of Vrworx, an
application that creates quicktimevr movies. The photograph
is a 360 degree panorama taken during a boxing day walk,
composed of 22 individual photographs. The control and
shift keys should zoom the image.
In relation to this project it is another possibility
for creating illustrations for stories that have a limited
element of interactivity. Combining quicktime panoramas
with hotspots would provide some interactivity, perhaps as
a completed project for a younger audience than those that
this project is aiming at, but with real potential for
future projects that my students might produce creating
storybooks that are aimed at a younger audience. A panorama
could be created by photomerging the work of a complete
class, each student creating a section that joins on to a
neighbours work.
A theme that I use for this type of collaborative
work is the street, which would provide windows and doors
as obvious hotspots. I have put a hotspot into this
panorama to do a simple test of interactivity.

The endless wood is another possibility, created with black
paper cutout, and useable as a background for animation
too. I am interested by the thought that somewhere deep in
the collective subconscious are residual memories of forest
dwelling, the trunks of trees thrown into silhouette. So
many fairy tales, from Snow White to Harry Potter, feature
the menace of the forest.
The image is of a myriorama, or endless landscape, the
original was published in Leipzig in the 1830’s.
